” Abbey is an architect turned expressive painter, currently residing in Chicago. She paints large-scale vivid “space-scapes” using elements from landscapes, structures, and space objects to create these familiar yet surreal images. Abbey’s work is created by connecting rhythmic structure with uninhibited experimentation. Her work transports you into her own alternate universe, where connections and intricate patterns flow amongst cloudy color atmospheres–each piece evoking a different energy. Her work is highly meditative and is created by taking in the experience of her environment and weaving in emotions, symbols and stories. Her pieces reflect the innermost aspects of herself, and the presence of these aspects in everyone and everything. Her paintings often take on a space-like quality but contain elements that viewers may recognize from the natural or man-made world. The contrast of these elements is meant to evoke a sense of strangeness to something that is familiar, exposing the absurdity and beauty of the inter-connectedness of our universe. “
